Hey y'all. I have a beef that I want to let EVERYONE know about. Yesterday, I called CIBC because they were sending me paper statements after I requested them to seize sending them (and they said " no problem!")
I was really appalled at what I was told.
"It is against the law to not send you a paper statement. We need to have a paper trail."
So I was confused as Im sure all of you would be as well. So I called my Citizens Bank Visa, (who make a clear commitment to the environment in their mission statement, if you are looking for a good card to go with, choose them) who send me NO, yes, that's right, NO PAPER STATEMENT EVERY MONTH. Why, they must be breaking the law! But i phoned and asked them, and they said, "its perfectly fine to not send a paper statement) I phoned CIBC back another time and asked to be put onto someone who would be able to give me a real answer as to WHY, i dont care if that is your policy, I want to know WHY. Why other banks, companies, can do this and you guys cannot. At MY REQUEST!?
So I thought i would get an answer, and what does the girl at the "right department" say to me? "that's just our policy miss" and then she preceeds to get bitchy with me after i asked WHY, i iknow that is your policy, but WHY. Do you think she could tell me? She was more useless than the other two people i spoke to. So i wrote a letter to CIBC and heres how it goes. Please feel free to add some suggestions to a revision, more comments etc. If they do not honour my request to have a paperless statement (as im sure they get hundreds of calls a day for the freaking request) I will be making a petition over the internet. I will then send it to the appropriate person. I need some suggestions with that too if you guys have any input!
Here goes:

I don't have a question, but a comment. I am a customer of one of the CIBC Visa cards and yesterday, I requested to have my account go paperless. This means I do not want to receive paper statements in the mail. This is because I am doing my small part in reducing, reusing and recycling. I check my account online once a week. Yesterday I phoned CIBC and personally requested a paperless statement. Unfortunately, CIBC's commitment to the environment is null. I was told by 3 CIBC representatives that it was "against the law" to not submit a paper statement each month. I find this outrageous, as my other credit card issuers honour my request. I am absolutely appalled that your company would use terms like, "against the law" because clearly, it is not. And to make matters worse, your representatives became short with me when I asked them "WHY" the policy is that way. Please get back to me with a clear answer. Thank you very much. "

Ok, i know its a bit bitchy, but hey?! Im pissed! Tell me what you think! And sorry for not writing any sooner!! I guess I had to give Vlads computer the glory of being up there front row centre for a bit!

We will be posting some pictures of the Vancouver/Calgary hockey game we went to on Saturday. It was a blast!

hey maria,

it's strange that you mention that coz i'm with pc financial, a daughter company of cibc. they're totally paperless and i do all my transactions online. you should consider switching to them. i know that doesn't solve the prob, but when you close your acct, you can tell them exactly why you're leaving them!

Too weird. Found your blog this morning after angrily searching the internet for anything after CIBC told me that it was "against the law" to have my paper statement stopped. Wondering if you ever received a reply? I'd love to hear if you did.

Thanks.
