Yiasou!
We have MADE IT! FINALLY!
I didn't quiiiite know what to expect coming here to Greece.. but lemme tell you, I could not love this place more.. and I haven't even started to tour the city!
We had a long ass trip to get here. We left Bangkok at 12:45am and flew to Cairo, Egypt.
We got off the plane at 6am (there) and upon arriving in the terminal, we met a man that asked us if we wanted to get an on arrival visa and go tour the Pyramids (since we had a 5 hour layover) At first it sounded too good to be true since we were discussing on the plane how cool it would be to go and get to see the sights really quick.. this was exactly what we were hoping for right?? Welllll we started thinking about how if it seems too good to be true it usually is, and to top it all off, my camera bag was in my backpack that was not on me and in the plane, so we decided that all together , it just didn't seem like a good idea.. specially if something happened to our transportation and we got stuck without a way to get back to the airport.. we couldn't jeopardize our trip, so we decided against it. Which sucked, cuz 5 hours in an airport is pretty lame after flying for 8 hours, and then having to take another 2 hour flight.. grrrr.
ANYways, after our flight into Greece, we went on the metro right outside and took it into town. The transportation here is brilliant and new since they built all of it for the games just two years ago.. very handy and it took us a mere ten minute drive from Maria's Grandma's home.
Once we got here we were met with open arms.. not of many though, only her cousin Maria who was sweet enough to prepare for us a chicken and potato lunch.. what a darling girl! It was so good, and we scarfed it down as all we had to eat for the prior 12 hours was airline food.
The time difference is only 5 hours, but it hit me like a ton of bricks.. so much so that by 7:30 last night my eyes were shutting and I could barely keep awake. I had a nice long sleep and the house is absolutely beautiful. I will post pictures for you all to see soon enough!
We plan on relaxing for a couple of days and then trying to see the sights of the city. Everything here in Athens seems to be within close vicinity of each other, so getting around hopefully won't be too big of a problem.. the only forseeable issue here is that everything here costs a whole lot more than we've been used to unfortunately. :( Going to have to start being very careful with what we're spending.
In any event, I'm very excited to be here and glad that we made it safe. Thanks for the comments everyone, and hopefully you're all doing great! Mom, check your EMAIL!
Aight, love you everyone!
Vlad
